The essay should be typed using size 12 font, double spaced and 3-4 pages in length (maximum length is 5
pages), with correct format for paragraphs, spelling, grammar, sentence structure. Use the rubric as a checklist
when completing the essay.
It will be written in formal literary essay format: with an introduction, a thesis statement outlining your
opinion, a minimum of three paragraphs each describing a reason to support your opinion (with proof in the
form of a quote from the novel) and a conclusion. Your essay should consist of formal language: no “I” or
“you” statements, in academic/formal language.
It will include quotes from Macbeth and may include quotes from relevant sources, depending on the topic you
choose. The quotes will provide proof/support for the thesis. You should include at least one quote for each
body paragraph – each point you introduce to support your thesis.
You must use APA format for the quotes – you do not need a Works Cited list if all of your quotes are from
Macbeth. If you do use other sources, you must have a works cited page (you can use a citation creation website
but check your finished page for errors.
Your essay should fully explore the topic you choose.
You must hand in an outline, then use feedback to complete a rough copy. You will submit your rough copy for
feedback, and then complete the final copy
