Photo essays use photos and reflective thinking to illustrate concepts and provide a representation of
how individuals see the world and its impact on certain outcomes. For this exercise, you will explore
your neighborhood/community to identify images (i.e., places, programs, services, landscape, etc.) that
represent factors that increase or decrease risks for cardiovascular disease.
For example, we know that
unhealthy eating raises a persons risk for heart disease. The photo essay might include a picture of
multiple fast food restaurants in your community. EX: The caption on the slide would explain that limited
access to healthy food options is a determinant of cardiovascular disease. This just one example will upload further instruction.
