Week 1: Getting to Know Your Local Agency
Attention: You will not be able to see the responses of your peers until you make your first post.
To prepare for this discussion, you will go into the field and make contact with a local or county law enforcement agency.
Information to Gather
Identify the agency’s origin, jurisdiction, mission, and functions.
Examine the mission statement. In your opinion, is the mission statement realistic? Explain why or why not.
Share what the organizational structure is. Compare and contrast it to your reading.
Explain how what you learned about your local agency differs from what you learned in your reading about federal agencies.
Although you can do this by researching your local agency online, you are encouraged to reach out to a local agency to start building community ties. Many law enforcement agencies have a public information office that can be contacted for this information, or you may find help from an officer or administrator.
Posting Requirements: Answer this question by Wednesday. Aim for at least one to two well written paragraphs to fully answer the main question. It should also contain at least one academic resource.
Reply to at least two other posts (to peers or your professor) by Sunday. Your posts should be made on 3 separate days. Remember, the quality of your posts count toward your grade.
