Citing an article in text in APA format:
If there is only 1 researcher, Researcher and year is always used: “Smith (2015) found that..” or “A researcher found (Smith, 2015)..”
If 2 researchers are on the study, both researchers and year always used: “Smith and Thompson (2017) found that…” or “Researchers (Smith & Thompson, 2017) found that”
If 3 or more researchers – For example Smith, Jones, Mary, & Tiger (2018)
it is always Smith et al. (2018) or (Smith et al., 2018) from the first time it’s cited
If your article has no single researcher but goes by organization like University of Pittsburgh or National Institutes of Health the paper cites it as: University of Pittsburgh, 2013 or (University of Pittsburgh, 2013); National Institutes of Health (NIH, 2014) and NIH (2013).
If your reference has no organization but a title only the reference in text should be:
