Aim to discuss the argumentation strategies used in the reading. Imagine we’re all sitting at a table and discussing the reading.
Initial post must:
State the purpose of the reading and identify the thesis statement. If there is not an explicit thesis, state the claim. (It’s fine if you identify a different thesis than others. This is all part of our discussion this week!)
Explain if the reading’s structure is organized and logical. Did this method of organization help or hinder the authors purpose?
Discuss the style of writing does the style help the author prove his/her point?
Explain how the author hooks the reader, or, conversely, if the introduction is weak, explain why. Discuss the conclusion to point out its strengths and weaknesses.
End the initial post with a conversation starter for peersa question, a statement, a quote, anything that will stir conversation about the readings argumentation methods and writing style.
