PERSONAL INTEREST STATEMENT
In addition to the references, you must submit a 2‐3 page, double spaced typed
Personal Interest Statement detailing your reasons for seeking professional social
work education. Your personal ideas of what qualifications are important for social
work should guide you in preparing this statement. You are asked to address the
information below. Please discuss in what ways have your life experiences
impacted your potential for success in the social work profession? Indicate what
you hope to gain as a result of your social work education. How do you see your
strengths and limitations for social work reflected in your concern for social
problems; nature of relationships to people; capacity to be self‐critical; attitude
toward people different from you in race, religion, and culture; attitude toward ideas
and attitudes different from your own; ability to work under pressure. Please
explain any personal responsibilities or life challenges that may interfere with your
education. Please address the compatibility of interest
with the urban mission of the school.
