In this post address one or more of the following questions. In your response, make sure you consider the information in all three articles as these issues are interrelated.
1) According to the following article by the Commonwealth Fund the US healthcare system is the most expensive in the world, yet patient outcomes, life expectancy, infant mortality and other measures are far below other developed countries. Why do you think this is the case? Are SDOH a factor? Please explain your thinking.
2) The “To Err is Human” document the U.S. healthcare system patients were negatively impacted by a tremendous number of preventable medical errors. Although this has improved since the original report was prepared in 1999, medical errors are still a significant issue in healthcare. What are your reactions to this report? What are the causes of medical errors? Are most of the errors the fault of healthcare workers?
3) Social Determinants of Health (SDOH) are crucial to understanding the health issues impacting communities. For your post discuss some of the SDOH that read about on the CDC site. Then discuss how we can improve the health status of individuals and the community as a whole.
