For today, I want you to choose three quotations from the text that tell us something significant about the friendship between Harry and Tobias. I want you to type them out and create a paper in which you respond to the specifics in each. What do they tell us about their friendship? What has it been based on? In what sense have they been — or are they — best friends in the world? What are some of the reasons that the friendship fails to have the same pull on either men than friendship did between David and Jonathan (Samuel 1 and 2) or Bassanio and Antonio (The Merchant of Venice)?
The written exercise shall be no more than 3 pages, and consist of passages with one paragraph responses to each. Each paragraph of response will explain its point with reference to specifics in the quotation chosen. What is the mood, tone, images, etc.? What are the words chosen? “Like,” “love,” “best friends”?
