Write Book Review on “The Never-ending Present The Story of Gord Downie and the Tragically Hip.”
When writing, remember that you are essentially advising your reader if they should read the book, and why – that is essentially your thesis.
Your review can include a brief summary of the book, but should focus more on specific sections or aspects of the book that support your thesis.
The remainder of the review should address questions or issues such as, but not limited to, the following:
Did you enjoy this book?
Is it well written?
Does it sound accurate/believable? (Is it credible?)
Did the book inspire you to seek out the artists material?
Did that material sound and/or look as you expected?
What was the authors intention?
What do you know about the author that helps you to evaluate the book?
Does the book tell a limited or very focused story, or does the author offer a sense of the subjects socio-historical context?
What do you expect will happen next to the books subject?
The strongest reviews will explain your reactions, i.e. do not simply write what you thought about the book; always explain why.
Please remember that you are reviewing the book, NOT the artist. For example, I may find the books subject quite repellent, but thats not what Im reviewing; Im reviewing the authors handling of the topic. Or, if the book leads me to think about the artist through Koskoff’s lens, I am still reviewing what the author did to evoke Koskoff, not what the artist did. The artist’s story is mediated by the author and the book – focus on the book.
You may wish to consider the ICE method, focusing on the connections and extensions you can develop from the text. Again, please don’t focus on what the book is telling you, but more on how and why. The strongest book reviews will construct arguments with a rationale that supports your thinking.
Please ensure that it meets the following academic conventions:

Separate reference page (any reference that appears in your list of works cited must also appear at least once cited in your paper)
Minimum 5 references
(Note:The book you’re reviewing should appear in your reference list but is not included in your reference count. Course notes and Garofalo text only count as one reference each, regardless of how many modules or chapters you cite.)
Double line spacing
5-6 pages
Standard margins in 12-point font
Explicit connections to course material
Consistent and accurate referencing, both in text and at the end (In this first year course, I always advise students to use whatever citation and reference style is common to their discipline and to make sure that they use the same method consistently throughout their work. For example, I use APA because that’s the Education/Arts standard).
