Research Paper (20%–200 points)
Write an original research paper on either the five books of Wisdom Literature or the five books of Major Prophets. This paper should include the following:
Authorship
Date of writing
To whom the books were written
Occasion for the writing
Setting for the books
Purpose of the books
Major themes of the books
Any distinctives of the books
Page Requirement: The content for each wisdom literature book/major prophet must be between one and two pages. Therefore, the total content of the paper must be between five and ten pages. The seventh page must be at least 75% full with content. If the paper is less or more than the minimum/maximum requirement, the grade will be deducted. It is expected that the research paper will utilize a minimum of ten (10) sources in the paper, two (2) of which may be online sources. The five to ten (5-10) page length refers to the body of the paper and does not include the title page, content page, or bibliography page, all of which are required.
Resource Requirement: There must be a minimum of two resources for each book of Wisdom Literature or Major Prophet (A total of 10 resources). Of these, at least five sources should come from the following:

The Interpreters Bible Commentary
Word Biblical Commentary
New American Commentary
New International Commentary on the Old Testament
Tyndale Old Testament Commentaries
NIV Application Commentary
Expositor’s Bible Commentary
The Communicators Bible Commentary
An Interpretation of the English Bible Commentary
The Biblical Illustrator.
One other source should be a Bible dictionary, Bible encyclopedia, or Bible atlas. The student is not allowed to use introductory material from a study Bible or class notes as sources. It is strongly suggested that the student use resources from the bibliography listed in this syllabus.
