1. What is Dr. Chetty’s main point(s)?
2. Dr. Raj Chetty defines the American Dream like this: “The traditional conception of the American dream is that America is a place that through hard work, any child should have the opportunity to rise up in the income distribution and have a higher standard of living than their parents did.” How does the podcast episode help you better understand the American Dream?
3. What connections did you draw between Dr. Raj Chetty’s points and Oliver and Shapiro’s (2019) points in Disrupting the Racial Wealth Gap?
4. At the end of the podcast, Dr. Chetty acknowledges the role of the environment in shaping experiences and opportunities. How has your environment (e.g. the neighborhoods you grew up in, the schools you attended) shaped your opportunities? How have those opportunities in turn shaped who you are today and what you strive to be in the future?

Although this discussion appears to be about you personally, it is not. It is about Chapter 7: Economic Inequality and Chapter 8: Institutionalized Racism. The explanation should demonstrate your understanding of social facts and their impact on an individual’s opportunities. Your post must be informed by course content (what you’ve read, watched, and listened to until this point). Integrate as many relevant sociological concepts/key terms (bold the key terms so I can easily spot them). There should be several references to Chapters 7 and 8 to support your explanations. Use quotes or paraphrase to support your statements.

Part 2. Reply to a student’s post (200 words max)
Your reply must include:
A point you found interesting and agree with AND a point you found interesting and disagree with, supported with quotes or reference to course material.
OR
A new point or position (that your classmate hasn’t made) that applies to their examples supported with quotes or references to course material.
*Simply stating you like and agree or dislike and disagree is insufficient. You must explain WHY you agree and disagree and support your position by referencing course content.
