This is the application based portion of the course. Please watch the “Smart phone addiction” video prior to doing the field work. You are to study and observe strangers in three different public locations and their technology usage. Locations that are not the best to watch at are the gym, library, dorm, or a location with limited people. Find a good size sampling of people. Observe for 15-30 minutes and record the subject data listed below. Finally at one location, pick one person to walk up to and say “hello”. The hello should include the explanation of what you are doing. Identify their reaction to this, sober, excited, nervous, awkward, etc. Did they respond to you?? This will cost you nothing, just say “hello”.
After your observation, please report on your findings. Report your findings in a table, followed by any general observations in paragraph form. Be specific on the information and not generalize. Discuss what does the information below has shown you about people’s social interaction and technology usage.
