In this scene, the messenger from Corinth appears with news of the death of Polybus, Oedipus’ “father.” However, it turns out, that he has other, more important truths to reveal. Notice the character of Jocasta in the early part of the scene. What does her expression reflect? Why does she ask Oedipus to abandon his search?
