For our first discussion, I would like you to choose two areas of professional etiquette/professional dress to discuss. It would be best to choose areas that you are unfamiliar with or want to learn more about.
You can choose any topic relating to etiquette, there are many! Use the links under module 2, including the one called “Professional Etiquette Resources”. Some examples include dining etiquette/business meals, golf etiquette, email etiquette, RSVP etiquette, table setting etiquette (i.e. which fork do I use?), thank you note etiquette, accepting a job offer etiquette, social/conversational etiquette, social media etiquette, interviewing etiquette, etc…
For each etiquette topic:
Discuss at least three items to consider when dealing with that topic of etiquette and/or how to practice that particular area of etiquette.
Give an example of a time where you observed someone practicing the particular etiquette correctly and why it was important in that situation. If you have not personally observed something, post a short movie clip or YouTube video demonstrating the correct way to practice it. Please make sure any links to clips or videos are appropriate for this class, we are talking about professional etiquette after all! 🙂
Make sure to reply to one of your classmates with a response post that is a minimum of 50 words, original post should be at least 200 words (see below).
Students are expected to post their own response to the prompt/question, read the comments of at least five other students, and respond to at least one other student. Comments must be substantive; that is, “good job”, or “I agree” would not be sufficient. Original posts should be a minimum of 200 words and response posts should be a minimum of 50 words. Professional writing is expected on discussions, including proper grammar and spelling. There are many tools to check your writing, please use them before submitting your discussions.
Discussions do not need to follow APA formatting, other than if you are citing any information.
Professional etiquette is an area that is automatic to many of us and we don’t usually think about it. However, it is a good idea to review some of the basics and, maybe, some things you didn’t know. As is mentioned throughout this course, professional networking is invaluable to you as you start your career in healthcare. Innocent mistakes with etiquette can send the wrong message and could ruin an opportunity.
Please review the following links and do some research on your own if there is a specific area you would like more information:
