design for political science research. problems described below. You should not
sketch on any giant projects, but clearly explain how you think about points
1-3. Remember to justify the choices you make as well as the problems with
these. Note that you should not carry out the empirical analysis yourself.

Why
are some countries more corrupt than others?
In recent years, many developing countries have made
major investments in order to counteract corruption. The methods have included
everything from stricter legislation, information campaigns, increased transparency,
higher salaries for civil servants and increased transparency in the state
apparatus. Since donors often have great power in designing this type of reform
package, we know that most developing countries have implemented similar
reforms. Surprisingly, it seems however, these similar reforms have led to
different outcomes in different countries and today there is great variation in
terms of how corruption has developed over time since the initiatives began.
Then In some countries, a radical reduction in corruption has been seen in
other countries no reduction at all and in some cases an increase in corruption
has even been seen. Information about the variation in corruption over time and
based on different ways of measuring goes to get hold of. However, there is a
lack of knowledge about why some countries have seen a decline in corruption while
other countries see unchanged or even increased corruption despite similar
reforms.
You are interested in understanding why some countries
have been more successful in that fight corruption than others despite similar
reforms. Suggest an appropriate comparative case study design to tackle the
research problem by answering the questions above.
