What kind of relationship does the chart suggest between the two variables number of Instagram followers and the number of selfies?

Background: This week’s module is focused on conducting research and statistical reasoning. These form the basis of all that you will learn this semester: we conduct research, analyze our data, and interpret our results to understand everything about psychology! Recall that in module 0 you were asked to take a brief and anonymous survey. This is one way of conducting research – using surveys! Now that we have our data from all of your who responded to the survey, let’s go over an example and discuss the relationships between variables.

Assignment: In this assignment, you will first look at one example of relationships in our class data and then answer some questions about it. Then you’ll get to come up with another relationship that you think might appear in our data and respond to possibilities your classmates came up with. More details at the end of the post!

Use the following information to respond to the questions below:
** THE PICTURE IN THE FILES DOWN BELOW **

The answers to the following questions will be your initial post for this week. Include answers to all items in your post.

Part 1) Selfies and Instagram friends
1.1. Before looking at the data, did you expect the number of Instagram/Snapchat followers and the number of selfies to be related to each other? If yes, explain why you expected they would be related. If not, explain why you expected they would be unrelated.

1.2. What kind of relationship does the chart suggest between the two variables number of Instagram followers and the number of selfies? Does it fit with your prior expectations?

1.3. What could be the causal relationship between number of Instagram followers and the number of selfies? Can you think of possible third variables that might influence the relationship between Instagram followers and selfie taking?

Part 2) Finding other relationships

2.1. Identify two additional variables from the data survey that you think might be related (link to survey here (Links to an external site.)). You may use one of the variables we used in the example, but you cannot copy both. Name the two additional variables.

2.2. How do you expect the two additional variables to relate to one another?

Response post

Respond to a post from a groupmate with whose view you do not fully agree. In your response, explain why you disagree.
