What does your analysis say about the media generally, about the people who produce it, about the people who are featured in it?

1. As
you learn more about your case, and start to understand what happened, you’ll
need to consider what other writers, commentators, scholars, and theorists have
said about your topic in the past. You’ll want to explain how your case fits in
with communication theories we’ve considered in class, and possibly from other
courses (e.g. cultural hegemony, framing, agenda-setting, cultural theory, etc.).
2. Writing
the paper.
·
Your paper should come out between 2,000 and
3,000 words, before adding your references.
·
It should include an introduction that describes the topic and case you’ve chosen, the issues
you will address in the paper, as well as a thesis statement summarizing your
analysis in one or two sentences.
·
The next section you could call your Overview or Background. Here you will set the scene for your case, describing
the most important and relevant facts and issues. You want to demonstrate that you’ve
thoroughly researched the topic and case.
·
The next section you could title Analysis. This is where you will
evaluate the case, looking at the various elements with a view to describing
what isn’t working, and why that is.
·
A Discussion
section follows in which you do a deeper analysis of your findings and start
to compare them against other cases. You’ll want to consider other research,
and start to bring in theory to explain your observations. The focus in this
part of the paper is answering the question “why?” What does your analysis say
about the media generally, about the people who produce it, about the people
who are featured in it? What, if anything, needs to change? You can propose
potential solutions or recommendations here as well.
·
Finally, wrap up your analysis with a Conclusion, a summation of your case, and its key findings.
·
Of course, it goes without saying, that there
will be deductions for grammar and spelling mistakes and any typos.
