This writing assignment should be no less than 700 words, and no more than 750 words.
• This paper does not require a title page. Simply type your name on the first line. On the
second line, beneath your name, type the date of submission. On the third line, beneath the
date, type the course name. And on the fourth line, beneath the course name, you should type
the name of this assignment, which is “Writing Assignment One.” It should look like this:

• The text of your paper should begin on the sixth line, and from there, the paper should be
double-spaced, with a 12-point-font, and 1-inch margins on all four sides of the paper.
• Any variation of the format above will result in a deduction of points.
• Your paper must be submitted on per my requirements. It should not be emailed, emailed as
an attachment, or handed in as a hard copy.
• Your paper must also be saved in a .rtf file format, or a .doc file format.
• You must also type your word count and place it on the last line of your paper.
• You must submit this paper on time to receive full credit. You have only three days after the
due date to submit it late. Late submissions are only eligible to receive half credit. No
submissions are accepted after the third day.
• Do not attach a Works Cited page.
Specific Instructions:
• Read the attached document and write a scholarly paper that addresses the following issues:
o What is most obvious about ancient culture?
o What do you find most agreeable? Most offensive? Most surprising?
o What modern sensibilities do you find in these documents?
o In your opinion, what fundamental principles underlie these writings?
o Why might historians consider this code one of the most important contributions of
Mesopotamian culture?
o What can modern culture learn from these documents?
