Objective: You will compare characteristics and arguments of seminal texts.
Seminal Texts: Seminal texts, or documents that are created to guide the development and future
contributions of specific things, play a pivotal role in the creation and development of new entities.
For this assignment, you will complete an analysis of two seminal texts—one from the United States and one from the United Kingdom—in order to compare and contrast their similarities and
differences. The texts that you will be reviewing are the Bills of Rights from the United Kingdom and from the United States.
First, read through each of the documents below, taking notes on the similarities and differences
that you notice between the two documents. Important areas to focus on include:
the purpose of each of the documents (why they were created)
the reasoning or rationale used in each of the documents
the tone or mood of each of the documents
the authors of the documents
common themes or goals
After closely reading the documents, compose a compare and contrast essay that is five paragraphs in length (with each paragraph a minimum of five complete sentences) and addresses the following prompt:
Compare and contrast the United Kingdom’s Bill of Rights with the United States’ Bill of Rights,
highlighting the major similarities and differences in the texts.
When typing your essay, use Times New Roman 12 point font (or a similar font) with double spacing. When organizing your essay, you must use the point-by-point method. With this method, you create a clear, concise, three-point thesis statement, and in each paragraph, you discuss one point of
comparison or contrast between the documents. Use the following outline to organize and draft
