Explain in detail the functions of each of these cell structures.

Discussion – Bacterial Cell Structures
Bacterial cells are equipped with cell structures that help them to survive in their environment and to establish themselves in a host. One such example is the glycocalyx that is present in Klebsiella pneumoniae. The glycocalyx helps this bacterium to easily evade the host immune response and in turn aids the bacterium to multiply in the host.

For this discussion, students are expected to do the following-

1)Pick four bacteria that have specialized cell structures that help them to survive in their
environment or infect the host successfully.
2)Explain in detail the functions of each of these cell structures.
3)Describe how these structures help the bacteria to survive?

The link below gives a good review of bacterial cell structure. You can use this as a starting
point.
