Choose two recent Presidential Elections-by recent I mean from the 1950’s to the present day. One of these is of a President Elect you would have supported (or, in fact, voted for). Choose another President that you would have preferred not to have been elected. In view of your chosen Presidents-evaluate the Electoral College, electoral process, and the role other aspects of our society affected the ability of that person to be elected. Discuss potential changes to the election process you feel would make the election itself more democratic. If you think the system works well as it is, please spend some time defending it.
The rubric for this paper is simple:
1) Use facts, not opinion (except for your choice of President-which you do not have to defend).
2) Two pages, double spaced. No more than four pages.
3) Use proper formatting. Access the University writing lab and associated material if you need help.
4) Make sure to show that you understand the electoral college system. If this, in particular, is not explained clearly, the paper automatically will be lowered an entire letter grade.
5) Base any argument on rational, well laid out statements.
