This week’s reading and film (River Blue) focused on the manufacture of one of the most ubiquitous, if resource-consuming, garments in production today: Blue jeans.
After completing the reading in its entirety and watching the film, I want you to do the following:
1. Transcribe one quote or passage you found interesting, surprising, shocking or appalling, and explain why you find it to be so in a response that is about a paragraph long.
2. Discuss one scene or part of the movie that you found equally interesting or unsettling and explain why. (Again, your response should be about a paragraph.)
2. Then, I would like for you to come up with a discussion question for class based on your chosen quote or film scene. A good discussion question goes beyond just soliciting someone’s opinion. It will encourage discussion, debate and reflection. Here, for instance, you might ask your classmates to respond to or challenge an issue raised in the quote or the part of the movie you discussed.
Alternately, you may use the quote as a jumping off point for folks to reflect on their own experience with the reading or with their own fashion consumption.
