Overview: Technological determinism is the notion that media technologies influence and dictate processes of social change. Contrary to technological determinism, many scholars argue that social forces determine technologies such as cultural norms, economic pressures, and legal regulations.
Task: Juxtapose (1) Marshall McLuhan’s technology/technological determinism: “the medium is the message” and (2) Social Forces: human agency, cultural norms, economic pressures, policy, and legal regulations of media. Supporting information is found in the assigned readings, videos, Course Materials via Blackboard, and outside sources.
Rubric: Each student/group is required to provide answers to the following:

State your position/perspective of each of them.
