Discuss any activities in which you participate that help you develop those leadership attributes or suggests for how you may grow the attributes she identifies.

Leadership Self-Assessment Paper

Your leadership self-assessment paper is based on the
reflection on and insights gleaned from completing the 5 activities and
readings below (files uploads). The paper must be organized in sections/subheadings
for each of the 5 activities, with a final summary conclusion paragraph. For
example, for the first activity, you might begin with a header that says,
“Every Nurse is a Leader.” Then you
would write your response to item #1.
Move on to item #2, “4 Quadrants Personality Style Assessment,” etc. You do not need to write out in your paper
all of the instructions and the entire in your final paper. Just a header will do. Answer ALL the
questions in all items when writing the paper.

1-Make
note of the 5 leadership attributes described by Miracle (Every Nurse is a
Leader) and give an appraisal of how those attributes are evidence in your own
practice and life. Discuss any activities in which you
participate that help you develop those leadership attributes or suggests for
how you may grow the attributes she identifies.
2- The
4-quadrant personality style activity prompts you to reflect on the quadrant
that captures your basic style in the two important leadership areas of
communicating with others, and how a person expresses and manages emotional
content. Complete the activity as thoughtfully
as possible so that the ‘results’ can be meaningful enough to give you
something to reflect on. At the same time,
recognize that this activity is loosely descriptive and is meant to be fun and
to provoke questions rather than to provide a diagnosis. You will even learn
something from any objections you may have to the activity. The frequent use of a 4-quadrant model
suggests that there is wisdom, validity, and accuracy in the ideas, even if it
seems a little less than precise! Briefly
describe your experience of completing this activity. Discuss any insights the activity gave you
for your personal or professional life. What do you believe to be your strengths for your
personality style? What are some of the
growing edges given your style? You
might believe yourself to have the ability to use the skills and traits in each
of the quadrants. If that is the case,
describe how you read situations so that you can intentionally about shifting
your style to be most effective. How
accurate to you think the descriptions of your quadrant are for you? Describe a situation in which you see some of
the dynamics of these 4 quadrant types interacting, either in a positive or a limiting
way. Group meetings come to mind as a
situation where styles are evident when you look for them. YOU MUST ANSWER ALL
THE QUESTIONS! USE THIS WEBSITE AS A BEST DESCRIBING THE PERSONALITY STYLE – www.crestcom.com/blog/2015/11/24/4-personality-types-that-all-leaders-should-learn-to-recognize/

3). Take the 56
true or false statements “Assessing Your Natural Leadership Qualities for
Educators” questionnaire (IT’S IN THE
DOCS UPLOADED – THE TRUE ANSWERS ARE MARKED PINK) and use the scoring
instruction to identify your highest (2 maximum) categories, 8 at or greater
than 6/8. Answer the questions as truthfully as possible, without over
thinking. Name the descriptor category
(s) that seems to fit you best (Adaptive Assertive AND Adaptive Supportive ARE MINE 6/8). Read the
descriptions of the categories provided in the provided uploaded document. Look at descriptions for your high category (s)
and look for the theme or similarities in the questions. Really look at the category questions and find
PATTERNS and discuss those patterns. Do
the themes in your highest categories capture your style fairly well? What do these high categories potentially mean
for your leadership strengths? Look at
the descriptions for the categories for which you scored lowest, 3/8, or 2/8 (MINE ARE DINAMIC AGRESSIVE 0/8). Low scores can also tell us something about
our leadership qualities. What do you
low scores suggest to you?
4. Competencies for Leaders in
Nursing Education from Patterson and Krouse (2016) describe four competencies
of leaders in nursing education. On page
79, note the chart that describes those competences and actions to give
evidence to those competencies. For each
of the competencies, identify an action you take or plan to take to develop
those competencies.

5. From your own vantage point and experience, reflect on the factors related to nurses’
participation in professional organizations identified in the study. If you
were taking the survey what would be your response to the question of why nurses
do not have commitment to professions? Include in your self- assessment whether or
not you belong to a professional organization and what factors influence your
decision. No shame here if you are not a
member of a professional organization!
As the article notes, most nurses do not. If you do belong to a nursing organization,
what benefits do you derive from you membership? Identify at least two nursing organizations
(lists are provided in the module) that are of interest to you for your
clinical or nursing masters preparation interests. I’M A MEMBER OF NASN
6. Write a brief summary paragraph about any
patterns, themes, and insights you have learned relate to your leadership
characteristics.
