This work is in a group, so I will be focused only on the area of Tampa Bay, Florida
This project will use concepts from the course to explore how cross-cultural diversity manifests
itself within the local community. Students will identify an issue impacting the Tampa Bay area,
researching both the issue itself as well as how community members respond to it. They will
research organizations related to the issue.
Group responsibilities:
Identifying a community issue related to social justice, inequalities, or inequities in the United States, such as homelessness, drug use, and recovery, in/access to healthcare, or reproductive justice. Dividing your group into 2 subgroups, each of which will research this issue in a different location—e.g., Tampa, FL vs Portland, OR; Florida vs California; Tampa, FL vs Miami, FL. For example, half of your group will research the issue in Tampa, FL, and half of your group will research the same social issue in Portland, OR.
1. Identification of a problem or concern to people related to a primary issue of the course
2. A brief history of the issue in the local area
3. A comparison of the issue in the two locations
4. A section that relates course concepts related to this issue, which could include but are not
limited to race and ethnicity, gender, or other forms of diversity
