How to write the essay:
It should give a brief summary of how the works address the week’s topic.
Consider the following for the body:
the common ground of the essays
how the author(s) support the thesis
question(s) posed by the authors
the purpose of the arguments
effectiveness of logical appeal(examples/precedents, authority/testimony, cause/effect, visuals)
appropriate emotional appeals(concrete descriptive language, figurative language, visuals)
address at least two questions that the authors provoked through your own reading
concluding statement for the essay

Set margins 1” (top/bottom left/right)
Head paper (Name: Instructor: Class: Date:)
Times New Roman 12
Title your work. Do not use the class/weekly theme as your title. Create your own title.
You may switch between 1st and 3rd person; do not use 2nd person (you)
If you use a block quote, only use 1 block quote. Block quotes may not be longer than 6 lines.
You must cite at least 2 works from the week’s selections.
Do not cite intext quotes consecutively. Once you include a quote, you must explain it.

*Papers that are submitted without a strong thesis fall into the weaker category.
