(Legalize Aid in Dying

First draft: three to five pages, using the required Five-point Position pattern!
Need a creative title and opening quote (italicized), that will point to and highlight your position.
1. Engage the reader: one paragraph opening using one illustration/story of a person that will highlight your position and hopefully one of your reasons. Do not “introduce,” do not lecture, do not preach, do not use the first-person–just simply tell one story.
Frederick W. Mayer, a political scientist, once said that politics often revolves around a “contest of stories.”
“Tell a story! Facts are great, analysis is important, but if the goal is political mobilization, a shared story is essential [emphasis added],” Mayer wrote. “And remember, you cannot beat a story without another story.”
2. State the position: one sentence statement which goes at the end of your engage the reader–abolish the death penalty or legalize aid in dying.
3. Argue directly for your position: use the reasons I have laid out. Bold the subtitles and justify left. For example, you must use all four reasons for the legalize aid in dying position: Choice, Simply An Option, Relieves Pain and Suffering, and Maintains Dignity—then use a variety of strategies that directly support that reason (statistics, ethical appeals, emotional appeals, illustrations, and logical appeals—all sourced!!!!). I have listed most of the sources you will need, but it is ok if you find other sources, as well
Remember, you must use at least one Amendment and at least one article from the UN Declaration of Human Rights (in support of one reason) for both positions–either to legalize aid in dying or to abolish the death penalty.For example, consider using the First Amendment’s “freedom of expression” to directly support the reason, Choice; you can also use the Eighth Amendment’s proscription against “cruel and unusual punishment” to indirectly support the reason, Relieves Pain and Suffering (indirect, because you can argue to let a terminal patient experience pain and suffering is “cruel and unusual.”
Then look for key words that align with one of the four reasons in the UN Declaration (“dignity”, for example).
4. Need only one counter-argument here. For example, for the Legalize Aid in Dying position,you can counter Slippery Slope to Euthanasia? and Too Depressed To Make A Rational Decision?
For example, for the Abolish Death Penalty position, you can counter Brings Justice? and Deterrence?
5. Call to action section: Use either Looking Forward or Where Do We Go From Here for your bolded subtitle. Do not use the “conclusion” approach here–do not repeat your position and do not repeat your reasons. Try to come back to your initial story/illustration and build a shared value or common ground appeal from it. Here, you can now make appeals to empathy, a shared value, based on your opening story–do not hesitate to also raise a rhetorical question here, as well.
