Your first assignment for this week is to watch this documentary (People’s Century, Part 5) on the industrial revolution, the rise of capitalism and early 20th century social-political-economic changes. Sociology as a discipline emerged in the social-political-economic-cultural atmosphere of the late 19th-early 20th century developments, hence, the documentary provides us with important insights for understanding the context of the time.
