The “Other Side” Is Not Dumb OR Media Campaigns and The Perception of Reality

The “Other Side” Is Not Dumb OR Media Campaigns and The Perception of Reality

Background: The writing requirement is at a minimum of 500 words unless otherwise noted. One of the features of the blogging medium and the characteristics of individual posts is that length is determined by content and goals. Be sure that you are thorough in discussing the subject, topic, or issues at hand (See Responding to Text Document
Actions
[How I will evaluate your posts!]).
Responding to Text via your blog is required. Your posts should include 1) an entry that extends ideas of the topic being explored and 2) one that explores an area of interest particular to you. These posts should serve as exploratory, introductory writing toward larger, later assignments. I encourage you to offer an interpretation, ask a question, link to, a quote from and respond to texts we read this semester.
Blogging in this course should be concerned with the regular examination of ideas and provide concise writing via a unique viewpoint and voice. I encourage you to:
Find new ways of saying what you think you want to say.
Make clear to readers that there is substantive thought behind the ideas presented.
Push yourself to explore the ways you can get at ideas through the use of different media.
Have specific references, including text, hyperlinks, video, images, and audio, as a means of support.
See how things work and what happens when you make changes.
The more you engage with, customize, and explore your blog, the more effective it will be, and the more you will get out of the assignment.
Reminder: Blog entries should be thorough and be at least 500 words (while the focus is not on length, 500 words provides at least a minimum of some thoughtful writing) and are due per the due dates on the course schedule.
Responding to student posts: While you are not required to respond to another person’s posts, it is highly encouraged. Responding to other students will count for participation but more importantly, it will help in engaging in discussion outside of the classroom as well as motivating bloggers.
