Choose one of the contemporary theories we have covered (Feminist Theory or Animal Ethics) and show how it explicitly challenges and necessitates a rethinking/reconsideration of the basic tenets of one (or more) of the theories covered earlier in the semester (i.e. deontology, virtue theory, utilitarianism, etc.). You may use a contemporary ethical issue that one of these contemporary ethical theories concentrates upon in order to center your analysis.

Write a 1-2 page essay response to each of the following questions. This means you should have 3-6 pages total of work after addressing the prompts. Be sure to address each part of the question through reference to the course materials. You should be using direct quotations and summarizing appropriate texts.

You may use a contemporary ethical issue that one of these contemporary ethical theories concentrates upon in order to center your analysis.
2. What do speciesism, racism, and sexism have in common? How are they maintained within societies according to bodies of theories that seek to dispel them? Are racism, sexism, and speciesism logical?
3. Explain the basic tenets of the following three ethical theories: Utilitarianism, Deontology, and Virtue Ethics. What does each of these theories prioritize in their ethical systems? Why/What is the justification for this prioritization?
