1-paragraph introduction or thesis statement that
briefly describes the material you have chosen and its significance in art
history. What is the material? Where is it found? What purpose does it serve as
an art material (e.g., pigment, carving stone, building material, decorative
jewel, etc.)? How/when/where was it used in history? You might already have one
or two case studies in mind at this point. You will also need to submit a
bibliography of at least 5 sources of information about the material you
have chosen. At least one should be an Earth Science source, and at least one
should be an Art History source. No more than two sources should be
websites
(and please no Wikipedia).
