Educators: 6a. Foster a culture where students take ownership of their learning goals and outcomes in both independent and group settings.
Objectives:
Identify the components of a typical classroom computer system and their application in the classroom
Describe the functions of computer components and peripherals for teaching and learning
Determine the role of networking in enhancing the capabilities of classroom computers
Identify the opportunities and challenges associated with computer integration in districts that may struggle to offer adequate technology for all learners while attracting highly qualified teachers
Culture of thinking is one in which thinking is “valued, visible, and actively promoted as part of the regular, day-to-day experience of all group members.
Make thinking visible by –
observing closely and describing what’s there; 2. building explanations and interpretations; 3. reasoning with evidence; 4. making connections; 5. considering different viewpoints and perspectives; 6. capturing the heart and forming conclusions; 7. wondering and asking questions; and 8. uncovering complexity and going below the surface of things.
WISE (Web-based Inquiry Science Environments)
Students post online responses at various stages in their inquiry, which are automatically saved and then can be accessed at a later date, by either the student or the teacher.
Concept integration is to directly reinforce students’ learning goals.
Rules of thumb are often posted on anchor charts with revision, based on students’ new observations.
Continually help students make links between claims and evidence, questions and information, project design and learning goals.
Facilitate reflection by promoting, guiding, and supporting it among students.
