(1 1/2 – 2 pages) How does experiencing musical theatre differ from experiencing the spoken text of a nonmusical play? Based on your reading in the course so far and examples from the lecture on musical theatre, discuss the way music changes the nature of theatrical expression and the audience’s response to what is happening on stage?

Pretend one of the following characters was in a musical version of the play in which they appear: Joe Pitt, Masako, Emiko, Seth Holly, Mattie Campbell. Write an “I am/I want song” for your character (like you’d find toward the beginning of a Disney musical).
