STEP 2: Search the internet to find an ethical dilemma relevant to your field of study. A good place to start is Markkula Center for Applied Ethics Cases or University of San Diego case studies.
STEP 3: Write a paper on the ethical dilemma you selected using the following criteria:
Describe the Ethical Dilemma/Issue: Briefly describe the problem or dilemma. Then identify whether the conflict is an ethical, legal, professional, and/or moral issue.
Make generalizations that are specific, clear, and representative of the dilemma
Describe your personal assumptions relevant to the ethical issue
Explain how your socialization has influenced your ethical stance
Check facts and identify relevant factors
Who are the stakeholders affected by the decision? An individual, several individuals? An organization? The community?
Identify questions relevant to the ethical issue
Ask “what if” questions about the ethical issue
Conduct research of cases similar to the ethical dilemma and make comparisons
Brainstorm a list of at least three possible solutions to the problem and possible impact/consequences (be imaginative).
Make a tentative choice based on the facts, relevant factors and your values. What values did you rely on to make your decision?
