Satire can, at times, be disturbing, so you may feel better after you watch Jonathan Foer hug his dog in the video! Concentrate on the intent behind the writing.
Not everyone appreciates satire, whether it is used as a literary device or for humorous purposes. Whether you like it or not (and I love it!) it is important to recognize it so as not to take it literally.
This can take practice.
