Should freedom of speech be unrestricted but with consequences for actions such as the Jan. 6th insurrection? Can Trump’s behavior be related to either of the ethical decision-making frameworks discussed in Ch. 2?

Below is a prompt for your first personal reflection. I expect you to think about the topic, read some background on the issue, including Chs. 1 and 2, and develop a response. Although you are expected to read and may use concepts from the book, the content of your reflection should be primarily your personal thoughts and opinions. No political opinions are expected or prohibited in these reflections, i.e. you may include them or choose not to include them. Reflections should be approximately 300-500 words, typed into Canvas.

Many of you have been inundated with news coverage of the Jan. 6th insurrection at the Capitol. However, you may not be aware that this was the first time the U.S. did not have a peaceful transfer of power from one administration to another, a hallmark of a democracy. Donald Trump is now suggesting that if he is prosecuted or if his companies are prosecuted, people should launch protests larger than Jan. 6th. Some people associated with groups who were protesting believe that these groups are inciting civil war.
Thinking in context of these protests, do you believe that freedom of speech should be completely unbounded, i.e. without restriction? Should freedom of speech be unrestricted but with consequences for actions such as the Jan. 6th insurrection? Can Trump’s behavior be related to either of the ethical decision-making frameworks discussed in Ch. 2?
