Assignment: Analysis of Linear Motion
Go bowling, or observe someone bowling (on YouTube is OK).
Part 1: Identify 4 forces (see HINT below) that are involved during the activity of bowling and briefly explain how they apply. (20pts)
HINT: what forces act on the ball to make it move or not move?
These are some TYPES OF FORCES:
Contact Forces: friction, tension, support/normal, air resistance, spring, rotational torque, ground reaction
Distance Forces: gravitational
Anatomical: muscular force
Part 2: Discuss 2-3 factors (NOT forces) modifying the motion (what factors might affect or change the movement (linear motion) of the ball or throwing of the ball?) Hint: Think about the ball itself, the surface of the floor, or what the bowler does (his/her actions). (20pts)
Part 3: List, define and then provide an example of how the following SIX concepts apply to the activity of bowling: 1-Inertia, 2-Impulse, 3-Work, 4-Kinetic Energy, 5-Momentum, 6-Friction (60pts)
