Overview
In this assignment, you’ll be searching for ten different music resources online that may be of use to you as the semester progresses.
An annotated bibliography is a list of citations of different types of documents like books, articles, or even sound recordings. An annotated bibliography not only informs your reader of the quality, accuracy and effectiveness of each source, but will also provide you, the writer, with information that may be of use in a research project. In this case, your citations should help you with subjects covered in this course.
To start your paper, you should assemble a list of 10 websites that will be useful to you as you research different musical subjects in this class.
Subjects might include the following:
copyright legal sources for music listening
different fields of musical study such as music theory, musicology, and ethnomusicology
guides to different types of live music in the area where you live like classical concerts, jazz performances, rock concerts, folk concerts, and children’s concerts; and
any other sites that you think might come in handy when you do your research for the upcoming papers in this class, like music from a country in your own cultural background.
Assemble your bibliographic citations.
Make sure you alphabetize your citations by the last name of the author and the title.
Then, write your assessment of each website. This should include the following:
a summary of the information provided on the site
an assessment of the quality, accuracy, and effectiveness of the site
a reflection on how the site may be helpful to a music appreciation student like yourself
include a discussion on why Wikipedia and YouTube are not appropriate sources for academic papers.
Finish your paper by writing an introduction, which will help your reader understand the information that your bibliography is providing. The introduction will go at the very beginning of your paper.A conclusion at the end of your paper will wrap up your main points.
This assignment should be at least 1000 words in length.
