Purpose
The world can be a scary place. There are many disease causing
organisms and genetic disorders that can make life difficult. As you
read the chapter, be thinking about your family history of genetic
disorders, how these disorders are passed on through generations, and
what types of testing can be done to look for these alleles. In this
exercise you will reflect on the pros and cons of genetic testing and
how it may affect you.
Task
This week’s discussion involves one part but you can choose from
three options. Be sure to respond completely to the option you choose
and argue your viewpoint in your post. Please remember to add a question
to engage your classmates in the discussion.
Option 1: Would you want to have your genes tested to know if you are at risk for a disorder? Why or why not?

Option 2: Would you want your future children to be tested? Why or why not?

Option 3: What might the consequences be of having this information (e.g. health insurance coverage, privacy, etc.)?
