For this prompt you will read (:-O) an empirical paper from a psychology research team in Uganda who has a very different approach to social sciences than you have been traditionally taught during your college experience. This will expose you to different perspectives on psychology and practice reading empirical journal articles.
Here are some questions to consider replying to:
What are the global goals of the Ugandan research team? What is their approach to psychology? What type of psychology department/partnerships are they trying to develop? What did they find in their study? How would those findings compare to cultures you are familiar with? How might it relate to other material in the book? What is liberation psychology? Why might it matter to Uganda and or the Global South?
You are not required to respond to all those questions, if you have any other questions/points you want to primarily focus on or include, do it.
Please note, be mindful not to draw broad generalizations about this culture without providing evidence from other sources (such as linking to an article). Well intentioned thoughts can be unintentionally ethnocentric (Links to an external site.)if you really haven’t unpacked the implications of your argument. If you are not sure, the best scientific practices are to temper your arguments by adding caveats.
