The Next New Deal Must Be for Black Americans, Too

● Submitted papers should be no fewer than 500 words but no more than 600. As a
guideline, this document contains about 300 words. Links and citations are provided as
footnotes at the bottom of this document.
The Next New Deal Must Be for Black Americans, Too
1. Title, Including Article Title (5 points) Your document needs a centered title of your
own creation but that includes the title of the article in quotation marks
2. Thesis, Summary, Analysis (50 points): Write three paragraphs, in your own
words, about the article. You cannot copy verbatim from the article. Doing so will result in a
grade of “0.” Only one quote may be used in each paragraph. Quotes do not need to be cited
internally. Make sure to:
a. Identify the author’s thesis for each subsection (but choose 3 or 4 subsections
only). What is the main point that the author is trying to make about this particular
piece of Black History?
b. Summarize and analyze without copying. In other words, tell me what the author
says but also what he or she means.
c. Include main ideas, interesting examples, and compelling facts that the author
uses to prove his or her point
3. Significance (25 points): Write one paragraph discussing what this has to do with the
larger topic of Black History (as we’ve studied it so far) and how and how the article gives a
better understanding of these time periods. Reflect upon whom these ideas and events impact
and how.
4. Three Questions (10 points): Write a paragraph including (3) relevant questions about
the article (these are questions you would like answered or questions that you could ask other
students in the class.)
5. Reference (5 points): Simply copy and paste the appropriate citation from below.
