What places were important to you as a child, during adolescence, and now as a young adult?

In this assignment you will reflect upon a meaningful place from your past with the goal of understanding your personal relationship with the environment. This project offers you an opportunity for self-reflection and introspection. As part of this assignment you will consider how past experiences in places shape your life today and your environmental concerns. You will explore your spatial preferences in relation to issues of culture, identity, and place attachment.
An environmental autobiography is much like a standard autobiography with one important difference: the focus is on place and how it has shaped who you are and how you view the world.
Central questions you should address in your environmental autobiography include:
Where: What places were important to you as a child, during adolescence, and now as a young adult?
Meaning: Why was this place meaningful to you? What about this place (its unique qualities and features) and the experiences you had there that make it personally significant? (e.g. sense of identity, control, link with friends/family, etc.) Please reference at least 2 concepts discussed in Fullilove (2004), Manzo (2005), or another reading.
Reflect: In what ways have your past experiences in this place influenced your everyday life today and/or professional career or aspirations? Can you identify or trace your adult spatial/design preferences to this special childhood/past place? What potential biases about the place may affect your design or place-making decisions?
The place that influenced me is the backyard at my home. My favorite object is the rocking chair. Feel relaxed at the moment.
