Your goal is to explain to other students interested in your field what the focus of each journal is, what important topics of conversation it covers, and what value this journal might have for students learning to be part of this discipline. Thoroughly describe each journal to readers and present your case, supported with evidence from each journal, for why other undergraduates should read these journals. For example, evidence may be drawn from the journal’s website, analysis of a recent issue, or reviewing the titles of articles published in the last year.
While this is being shared in the discussion module, this assignment does not require discussion, through you certainly may respond to one another if you choose. The goal is to share your journal descriptions with other students who may be in the same or related fields.
Tips for Picking Journals
Consult your department’s website, look up information about faculty, and note the journals in which they’ve published research
Google the name of your discipline +journal (for example, google American History Journals, and skim the results)
Ask faculty which journals they read in their field or which journals are the top journals in the field
Consult the library’s research guide for your major or databases relevant to your discipline to see which journals they index
Check for professional organizations that publish academic journals
Google professional forums that discuss or rank journals in your area

Tips for Writing Your Posts
Examine each journal’s editorial or mission statement to find out information about the journal’s audience and purpose – usually you can find this on their journal website. Bigger journals may also have a Wikipedia entry.
Analyze the table of contents from recent issues to identify important topics of conversation among researchers in the field
Choose an article from each journal that interests you and read these pieces rhetorically, using the strategies we’ve been discussing in class
