My Experience With Social Media

Y‌‍‍‍‌‍‍‌‌‌‍‌‍‍‍‍‌‍‌‌our Writing Task: Consider your relationship with social media and networking: Do social networking sites bring you closer to people or not? Another way to approach this assignment is to think about how social networking sites benefit you and how they don’t. Do the advantages outweigh the disadvantages or not? Take a position; don’t straddle the fence. This assignment requires you to research and discuss the benefits and pitfalls of social networking sites as they apply to your own experience and then to take a clear position on whether they are more of a help or a hindrance in your own life. The Audience: This is an argument paper. Assume that your audience holds a different position on this issue than you do; you are trying to help the audience understand your position. Assume your audience has some passing familiarity with social networking sites. However, do not assume all your readers share your level of experience with technology. Some will, others won’t; so you will need to define and explain certain terms, or how certain media sites work–TikTok for instance, or Pinterest, or Twitter. Sources: This paper should use five to seven sources. All of them should be academic sources. You ma‌‍‍‍‌‍‍‌‌‌‍‌‍‍‍‍‌‍‌‌y want to review Ms. Baldwin’s video. Once again, “using” a source means that it is either directly or indirectly referenced in the paper. Formatting: We will use the MLA format for this paper which will include a Works Cited page at the end of the paper. Paper Specifications: The paper should be be five to six pages. I am more concerned about quality of thought than length, but it is virtually impossible to do what I am asking of you in less than five pages. Let’s be clear. I am talking about five to six pages of text. The Works Cited page is an additional page. The paper should use five or six outside sources. That means sources that are referenced in the paper by direct quotation or paraphrase. The paper should contain an introduction with a thesis and a “roadmap” sentence. The paper should contain well developed paragraphs with clear topic sentences and supporting details which reinforce the thesis and follow the roadmap. Your body paragraphs should include anecdotes and examples from your own experience. Avoid lengthy quotes from the experts. Apply their insights to real life experiences. The paper should contain a conclusion that does not merely restate the main p‌‍‍‍‌‍‍‌‌‌‍‌‍‍‍‍‌‍‌‌oints of the paper.
