Overview:
For
the writing assignment, students will research, draft, and complete a 3,500-word formal research paper on the assigned topic (found below).
The research paper must consist of discussion covering the topic’s
background, technical details, and the topic’s impact in economic,
environmental, societal, and global contexts. The paper must be
supported by and incorporate primary sources, all of which must be
appropriately cited in-text and in the paper’s bibliography. The paper
must follow the IEEE style guide.
Writing Assignment Topic:
– Data
science and machine learning have a great impact on the way we live day
to day, as well as far-reaching effects on many industries. A data
scientist will analyze data and develop a model, and a machine learning
engineer will focus on writing code and deploying machine learning
products.
– Present and discuss examples of both
data science and machine learning technology, explain how these
respective technologies work, and evaluate how these two respective
technologies have been implemented in society. Trace the ways in which
data science and machine learning have developed and evolved over the
years. Identify the common skill sets required for engineers in working
in data science and machine learning fields, and assess the societal,
economic, environmental and global impacts of each industry
*** This writing has 2 part:
– Part 1: Annatated Bibliography. I attached an detailed instruction for this part. Can you finish this part before 10pm this Thursday (02/17/2020)?
Students will perfect their research skills by identifying five
primary sources** to use in their paper. Students will develop an
annotated bibliography that lists each source in proper IEEE reference
format, accompanied by a short paragraph noting and analyzing the
source’s main ideas, and how the student will use the source in the
research paper. Each paragraph must be no fewer than 150 words.
**Primary sources come from published
scientific journals, academic publications, and conference proceedings.
Primary sources are not
consumer-facing websites, blogs, or articles from Wikipedia or
mainstream consumer media. Primary sources should be written for a
technical audience.
