Look at the chart in Chapter 6 of your book entitled: Identifying Your Self Esteem Distortions: A Checklist Using Harter’s Five Domains.
Read all 10 descriiptions. These thoughts are similar to what various psychologists believe result in low self-esteem. These thoughts are similar to what various psychologists believe result in low self-esteem.
As you read each descriiption, be honest with yourself and see if you have experienced any similar thoughts. Identify the descriiptions which you have used or thought about yourself. (Note: These descriiptions don’t have to match 100 %, but are similar to thoughts you have experienced.
Based upon those descriiptions in the book, complete the following questions.
1. Develop a list of the 5 thoughts which closely resemble yours and write your thoughts down. (based on the 10 descriiptions. Example: I am God’s gift to the human race or I am so ugly I will never have a date.)
2. Identify if each of the thoughts on your list are more of external, internal, or if you are some of both categories. (See the chart in your book) Explain why you think your thoughts fall into that category.
3. Based upon your answers, identify some simple techniques (minimum of 3) to help you improve your thought process and your self-esteem. (Use your book and other sources for ideas)
4. Based upon Erikson’s personality stage of industry vs inferiority, how/why do the studies in your textbook in Chapter 6 support building self-efficacy?
