Discuss how many soldiers and civilians died in World War I?

For your first five-page essay of the semester, here is your assignment:
Using Wilfred Owen’s “Dulce et Decorum Est,” Stephen Crane’s “War Is Kind,” and Tim O’Brien’s “The Things They Carried,” address war, death, and survival.
Generate one or more research questions.
Conduct research and identify two outside popular sources.
Generate an original point of view/thesis.
Generate a separate document as your research log.

Possible research questions could be:
Discuss how many soldiers and civilians died in World War I? The Civil War? Vietnam War? Afghan and Iraqi Wars?
What did enlistment propaganda and other advertising look like? What were the messages? Were they effective?
What were these authors’ lives like? Did they always write about war?
Your own topic—be creative, original!

Requirements:
Five pages, double spaced in 12-point type
Quotations to back up your arguments with MLA citations
Each quote should be introduced
Works Cited page (not counted in the five pages)
A point of view, thesis
A title that reflects your point of view or thesis
No “I” or “you”
