This assignment gives you the opportunity to select from the following and write a 3-4 page (750-1000 word) paper about the healthcare system practice model that meets the stated objectives and criteria in the grading rubric.

GRADING: The paper will be graded according to the rubric in the syllabus. Please review it carefully.

Defining Criteria:

Organization & Application of Systems Based Practice Knowledge: The paper presents information in logical, meaningful, and understandable sequence, and is clearly relevant to the topic and objectives.
The student must accurately and fully discuss the topic in addition to providing examples of how the system impacts the quality of care, client safety, and the role or potential role of the professional nurse in the model.
APA format, grammar, spelling, and/or punctuation are accurate, or with 0–minimal errors.
References/Resources Criteria: Support from the literature is present and includes a minimum of three scholarly in-text citation and matching references.
What is a scholarly resource?
a. A scholarly resource is one that comes from a professional, peer-reviewed publication (e.g., journals and government reports such as those from the FDA or CDC).
• Contains references for sources cited

• Written by a professional or scholar in the field and indicates credentials of the author(s)
• Is no more than 5 years old for clinical or research articles
• Reputable web sources

b. What is not considered a scholarly resource?
o Newspaper articles and layperson literature (Readers Digest, Healthy Life Magazine, Food and Fitness)
o Information from Wikipedia or any wiki
o Textbooks
o Non-governmental/non-professional website homepages
o Blogs

c. Are resources provided within the course acceptable sources (i.e., the readings for the week)?
• Not as a sole source within the paper. The textbook and/or assigned (required) articles for the week can be used, but other outside source must be cited for full credit. Textbooks are not considered scholarly sources for the purpose of discussions.

d. Are websites acceptable as scholarly resources for discussions?
• Yes, if they are documents or data cited from credible websites. Credible websites usually end in .gov or .edu; however, some .org sites that belong to professional associations (for example, American Heart Association, National League for Nursing, American Diabetes Association, American Nurses Association) are also considered credible websites. Websites ending with .com are generally not to be used as scholarly resources.
