Many times, when we are working in teams, we will be asked to work with people who
have different backgrounds. For this assignment, you will explore how diversity can
benefit your team.
Instructions: Consider the following scenario:
o A local University, of which you and your classmates are “teachers”, is
looking for ways to increase grade scores, and improve both graduation
and retention rates. The President has come to you, the teachers, for your
input.
Read the backgrounds of your fellow “teachers” (see attached for these backgrounds). The goal is to become more
aware of how diversity can benefit your team on this project.
• Please discuss the following:
o Seeing: Describe all the ways the members of our group are different from
one another.
o Understanding: Discuss the significance of those differences. How have
they affected the way you see yourself? The way you see the rest of the
class? The way you see the world?
o Valuing: Discuss how all these differences can be a benefit to this project,
and in general as you move forward
