I’ve started writing the first paragraph already, below I’ve attached the Doc. I’ve done the intro, you can start on the body paragraphs. For the body paragraph its asks to share a personal story, I can go back and add my stories after your writing.
Instructions:
– 700-750 words single-spaced, Times New Roman, 12-point font, 1-inch margins
Op-Ed Format
– First paragraph (about 2-4 sentences): Introduce your topic or question. You might also
briefly signal why that topic or question is important/why your audience should care.
– Body (3-5 short paragraphs): Explain the research and main arguments, refute any counter-arguments with research, tell a personal story.
– Note: In-text citations in Op-Eds are simpler than in academic papers because they do
not use academic jargon. Example: “In her 2021 Social Forces article UC Berkeley
Sociologist G. Cristina Mora finds….” You will *not* be citing (Mora, 2021) like you would
in a reading response.
– Concluding paragraph (1-3 sentences): connect back to your first paragraph’s topic or
question, remind people why they should care, this is important, includes a call to action
(e.g. what should be done about this issue or problem? How can the reader act on this or
get involved?).
